New master's students
Welcome and introduction to Roskilde University
At RUC, the semester officially starts on 1 September. If possible, you should aim to arrive two weeks before the official start of the semester.
Familiarise yourself below with the introduction programmes for international students, the specific introduction sessions at your master’s programme and the other support available to you. They are essential opportunities designed to give you all the tips and tricks you need to get your study life at RUC off to a great start.
- Your programme welcomes you online
On 10 June, you will receive an invitation to your online study start room, where your new programme will welcome you and tell you more about what to expect when you start in September. If you are completely new to RUC, the course will also contain a special section for you, where you can be introduced to RUC's campus, IT systems, project work and much more. - Study start at your programme
Most of RUC's study programmes hold a study or semester start with an academic introduction to your Master's programme. It is aimed at all new Master's and prerequisite students. It is very different when it takes place, so you need to find your study or semester start at www.study.ruc.dk by choosing your study programme.

If you do not have a MitID, you can see in your enrollment letter how to get your RUC username and login.
Every student at RUC receives a student card. You can only create your RUC student card once you have been enrolled in your study programme or in your summer prerequisite studies.
Once you have your username and password, you can upload your own photo and order your student card at kortprint.ruc.dk or you can go to the photo booth in Building 03 and take your photo there.

Internships and exchange
Student Grant (SU)
If you are not a Danish citizen, you must fulfil specific conditions in order to be entitled to SU.
Read about SU at the website of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
Public transportation discount (Ungdomskort)
You can apply for a public transportation pass known as an "Ungdomskort" as a student at a master's programme.
If you have any questions about the "Ungdomskort", please contact the SU Office at RUC.
NB: If you are a citizen of a country outside the Nordic region or the EU/EEA, and you have a residence permit in Denmark as a student, it may have consequences for your right to stay in Denmark if you receive a transport discount in the form of a Youth Card or mileage allowance. This may mean that you lose your grounds for residence. This applies, for example, if you are on a study stay/exchange in Denmark.
It is your own responsibility to ensure that you comply with the rules that apply to your right of residence in Denmark, including that you may not receive public assistance for support. If you have questions about the rules for your stay in Denmark, you must contact the immigration authorities - read more on www.nyidanmark.dk.
Learning Danish
While most Danes speak English quite well, learning Danish while studying in Denmark will benefit you at your study place, in your social life and in terms of finding a job in Denmark.
There are different options for Danish language courses depending on where you live, so if you want to learn more about different options, read more about the options in your local municipality (kommune).
