Foundation Course
Welcome!
Are you a newcoming student to Roskilde University (RUC)? We are here to offer you the chance of joining the Foundation Course, free of charge!
Here at RUC, we value immensely our international students, and would like to give you the best possible start to your studies.
What is the Foundation Course?
The foundation course is a peer-to-peer introduction course held a few days before your semester start. There you will be introduced to the history, philosophy and learning principles of RUC, together with plenty of practical information about studying at RUC, for instance what a semester looks like and which digital platforms we use. We will assist and help you with the practical matters of moving to Denmark and introduce you to the Danish culture and language.
Above that, you will also get the chance to try the problem-oriented project work in groups, one of the essential elements of your academic journey. In the pilot project, you will experience the group formation process and discuss the different elements of the project in preparation for the real thing, so that you will be ready.
You will find more details in the dedicated website.
In short, the program will be a mix of:
- Small lectures with academic staff, the International Team and the Study- and Career Guidance.
- Practical experience when the participants in groups develop project ideas and try out a project group formation in the RUC format.
- Help with registration in Denmark, e.g. residence permit and moving to Denmark.
- Social activities, for example, tours to Roskilde and Copenhagen
But it’s not over yet!
In addition to the daily program, we also offer various social events during selected afternoons/evenings. The Foundation Course is a unique opportunity to get a social network up and running before commencing your studies - we always have a lot of fun together - staff, volunteers and students alike.
We really hope you can join!
If you, earlier in your studies at RUC, haven’t been able to participate in the Foundation Course or if you want to participate in the course again, you’re more than welcome to sign up for the Foundation Course. The only demand is that you’re an international student currently or about to be a student at RUC.
Dates
The foundation course is held on January and August, respectively before the Spring and Autumn semester.
The specific dates are updated each semester.
January 2025 dates: 28-31 January
Registration and program

Are you a current RUC student and are you passionate about welcoming new international students? Become a volunteer at the Foundation Course!
As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a team which is passionate about the social environment of RUC together with being an active part of such. As a volunteer, you will be a helping hand both with practical matters and as support for the new students, where you can share your experiences. You will also be able to plan activities, so if you have a great idea, we would love to hear it.
We will need volunteers both during the daily program and for the social activities, but we do not expect you to be able to be available all the time.
We will host a volunteer workshop in August (date to be announced).
